Enamoured with the heroes of the community – soldiers, firemen, and police officers – Guy pursued a degree in criminal justice in college, and enlisted in the U.S. Army.  However, as the 21-year old waited to be called to serve, he began to blog about day trading, a subject he had become intrigued with after reading the classic “Reminiscences of a Stock Operator” by Edwin Lefѐvre.

Within six weeks his blog evolved into a successful day trading website with paying subscribers and became his first business, Daytrader Pro in 1998. Eager to capitalize on this success Guy indefinitely suspended his military plans to pursue a career in financial technology and services entrepreneurship.

Later that year, Guy’s business acumen enabled him to establish Speedtrader.com, a day trading brokerage which provided direct access trading software and online trading platforms to investors and active day traders who needed more than just a typical online broker – one of the first businesses of its kind. And at only 24, Guy became one of the youngest persons to have founded a registered broker-dealer in America.

18 years later, the firm remains a leading online day trading platform, ranked among the best online brokerages by Barron’s four years in a row, and in 2010 rated one of the fastest growing private companies in America by Inc. Magazine.
